The Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians offers Knowledge Self-Assessment (KSA) sessions (formerly SAM's) as a benefit to our members. KSA's are offered both live and virtually.


Pain Management KSA

The Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians, is excited to announce a live, American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM)- endorsed Maintenance of Certification Knowledge Self-Assessment (KSA) group study (formerly known as a SAM) focused on Pain Management. This proram is limited to the first 30 MassAFP members who register.

The session is open to the first 30 registrants. Spots are reserved in the order that payment is received.
Cost: There is a group session fee of $125 for MassAFP members, $95 Resident member, and $250 for non-members.
Additional ABFM activity fees apply.

Additional Details:

At the session attendees will work together to complete the Knowledge Self-Assessment of the topic content area. Upon passing the assessment you will receive 10 ABFM Certification Points and 8 CME Credits.

  • Attendees will discuss and complete the 60 questions that make up the Knowledge-Self Assessment
  • The MassAFP will report answers from the group session directly to the ABFM on your behalf
    • The Clinical Self-Assessment is now optional and may be completed on your own for an additional 5 ABFM Certification Points and 4 CME Credits. (This was previously required under the old SAM format.)

Registration Information

Registration is limited to the first 30 participants, in the order that payment is received. Please be sure to make your online payment as soon as you complete the registration form.

SAMs, the Knowledge Self-Assessment (KSA) and the Clinical Self-Assessment (CSA) have 3-year repeat limits. Before registering for any KSA or CSA please check with the ABFM to see which topics you have completed in the past three years. If this is your first step in the Family Medicine Certification process, please be sure to contact the ABFM (877-223-7437) and obtain your ABFM ID. If you do not recall your password, please use the "Help! I forgot my password and/or username" link on the ABFM website to reset your password. If you have any questions about how many Family Medicine Certification activities are required for you at this time and/or when you need to complete them, the ABFM can assist you. In addition to the MassAFP fee to participate in the group session, the ABFM charges an annual certification process fee.

Cancellation:

New ABFM Part IV Performance in Practice Module on "End of Life Care" Available

New module is approved for ABFM Part IV credit and 30 AAFP Prescribed CME credits

The module is designed to:

Increase the number of patients with advance directives in place
Enhance physician-patient communication
Improve end-of-life care

Advance Directives: Every Advance Care Plan Begins with a Conversation

The WAFP is pleased to offer access to this ABFM Part IV Performance in Practice module on End of Life Care.

This module was created by the California Academy of Family Physicians (CAFP) in partnership with Interstate Postgraduate Medical Association (IPMA). The module is designed to increase the numbers of patients with advance directives in place, to enahnce physician-patient communication, and to improve end-of-life care. The module is approved for ABFM Part IV credit, includes 30 AAFP Prescribed credits upon completion and is based on a team-approact (AMA PRA Category 1 credit is also available). The Part IV module is appropriate for any family physician, family medicine resident, or other primary care physician. The module is also approved for any ABMS board Part IV credit.
