The MassAFP 2026 Appetizer Series will feature high-yield lectures on impactful clinical topics delivered by local experts in the field. This session will be used as an "appetizer" to the annual Spring Refresher meeting. This year's topics will focus on breastfeeding as well as chronic pain.

Chronic Opioid Therapy and Complex Patient Care

Learning Objectives

  1. Construct an approach for management of patients on chronic opioids who are abandoned by their providers
  2. Review in depth the potential risks and benefits of continuing or discontinuing chronic opioids for pain
  3. Understand the available options for clinical support in these scenarios and grow comfortable with living in "the gray zone"
This activity meets the criteria of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine for opioid education.
